Post 2- Syria

Syria's unique location in the middle east region of the world gives it many different cultures and languages. The region is mostly populated with Kurds and they speak Arabic. Along with a lot of the Jurdish population who can speak Arabic, many can speak Kurdish as well. In the eastern part of Syria, Kurdish is much more common. There are considered to be two main dialect zones in Syria. There is a certain dialect spoken around the area of Aleppo, and another dialect of Arabic spoken around the area of Damascus. There are many other dialects spoken around the region including Aramic, Turkmen, Najdi, and Levatine Bedouin near the regions close to Jordan. Turmen lanuages were brought to Syria during the Ottoman Empire. There are some villages in Syria where Aramic is still spoken. Most of the people who ethnically spoke Aramic have now taken up Arabic as the main language that they speak today. There are two languages from the regions in Syria that are considered to be extinct. These languages are Lomavren and Mlahso. Lomavren is nearly extinct throughout all of the world, and is not spoken at all any more in Syria. It is a language that was spoken by the people from the Armenian region called the Loms. Mlahso is a certain dialect of the Aramic language. It was spoken in both Turkey and Syria and has become extinct in almost all areas of the world. The last speaker of this language passed in 1998. He passed Mlahso on to his two daughters and his son. They are the last three left who are able to speak this language.

Syria is a current member of the United Nations, They have been a member since 1945. There has been much in the news recently about the United Nations and intervening with the crisis that is continuing in Syria today. There has been a group formed called the Syrian Opposition Council and they represent the people of Syria in an effort to represent the people of Syria and have a voice heard to the United Nations on being helped and getting supplies to help fight the Assad regime. Currently, the people of Syria are not receiving help and supplies from the UN to fight back due to the security regulations the United Nations have in place. But, at the current rate of the crisis against the Syrian people, intervention could happen much sooner than anticipated.

The United Nations have recently called for an end to the violence in Syria and release of political prisoners being held. There has also been a special envoy announced by the UN for the state of Syria. This is designed to target ending all of the violations of human rights happening in Syria and bring peace to the situation that is unfolding right now. The current state of Syria is not safe at all and there is violence against the people in many different forms including from its' own militia, and the terror group, the Islamic State. The Syrian people feel the should be supported by the United Nations and given supplies to help aid the progress back to peace in the region. The main violence is coming from within the civil war that has been going on in Syria since around the Arab Spring. It is a good starting point for getting a voice heard within the United Nations and has been gaining progress, especially as the death toll rises due to the civil war and the human rights violations against the Syrian people. If the civil war continues to tear the country apart, the United Nations will have no choice but to step in and help intervene and achieve peace.
